Catastrophizing

‘Worse case scenario’, ‘if worse comes to worse’,

 Endless ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’, this language is a curse

Casting spells upon us, words conspire every day,

To paint a worrying picture of what is on its way,

This is the language of the mind as it seeks to catastrophize,

Pushing us to see bad times without using our own eyes

Directing us along thought paths we unwittingly choose to tread,

Placing us amongst worrying landscapes, filling us with dread

These pictures are not real, words are brushstrokes on the canvas of the mind,

Brushstrokes can paint pleasant pictures when the words we choose are kind
